Coffee Chronicles: San Francisco

Sight Glass Coffee

Tucked away in an industrial setting on 7thStreet, just a few steps from Folsom, lives the wonderful open-air Roaster’s of gloriousness, Sightglass Coffee. From the wood slat and iron entry-way to the inviting circular coffee counter, down to the burnt umber and taupe twine detail on their coffee bag tags, when it comes to atmosphere, these guys nailed it!

A mixture of cold wrought-iron rails and warm wood-beam ceilings, and polished mud-stained concrete floors on the bottom level sets the stage for this industrial coffee palace. The staff is very helpful and happy to get down and dirty on the details of the daily grind offerings (which they roast in-house, right before your very eyes). You can’t really put your finger on it, but there’s something about the laid back, yet intense diligence of the barista as he makes your delightful cup of pour-over (b/c why would you go for any othr option – even if it does take longer?) that tells you – “these people know their coffee”.

I take the first sip (sans condiments, of course). . . inhaling the aromas; letting each note wiggle its way up my nose just before my brain can connect the buds on the tip of my tongue and the Christmas-y warmth on my lips: Mmmmmmmhhhhhhhhmmmmm. Oh that’s nice. Not too hot as to ruin the delicate lighter notes of the rich Peruvian blend, but just right. I go upstairs to the 2ndlevel, which wraps around the atrium so you can enjoy your coffee and still have a perfect view of all the hustle and bustle below. The large hand-carved red-wood tables and old-style school house desk swivel chairs beg for you to stay, have a few cups and read for a while… Or just people watch. It ISSaturday at 7am in San Francisco – the early morning crowd is sure to be an intriguing mix of dedicated intellects and the late-night/early-morn, drug-laden weekend warriors that are just now leaving the End Up and realizing the sun is up and they are one pair of sunglasses short of a full deck… Maybe coffee will make it better.

Blends Acquired for tasting and lazy bacon and coffee mornings with The Man:

Peru: Inambari, Sandia Valley: A Clean and velvety cup, with notes of toffee, bing cherry, and a lingering butterscotch finish. Bourbon roasted with Caturra and Typica.

Columbia: Primavera: Rich and brut dark Columbian roast with earthy flavors and deep currant undertones.

Guatemala Ensenada:No tasting notes yet – but the counter staff says we are sure to enjoy!

$75 in coffee… Was it worth it? Without a doubt! #chloejasmineliving #sightglasscoffeesf #sanfrancisco #coffee #chloescoffechronicles
