Hey friends!
Can you feel it? The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and the flowers are starting to bloom. That's right, it's May Day –
my absolute favorite day of the year!
This day is all about celebrating the beauty of spring and the opportunities for growth and new beginnings that come with it.
Did you know that May Day has been celebrated for centuries? Back in Celtic times, people would dance around Maypoles and gather flowers to welcome the new season. And one of my favorite traditions is leaving baskets of flowers on someone's doorstep as a symbol of friendship and goodwill. It's such a sweet gesture that reminds us to cherish the people and relationships in our lives.
Another May Day tradition that I absolutely love is the Maypole dance. It's a joyful and lively celebration where people come together to dance and weave ribbons around a tall pole, creating a beautiful pattern of colors. It's a wonderful way to celebrate the community spirit and the joy of spring.
As for me, I used to celebrate May Day by spending days leading up to it, writing poetry, crafting personalized cards, and hand-crafting nosegays and floral door hangers for my friends. I'd then set out at midnight the night before to leave all these little tokens on their doorsteps. Just thinking about how awesome and excited they would feel to start their day with a sweet note and flowers or a gift made me so filled with joy and excitement, I could barely sleep! But now that I'm a little older and busier, I mark the day with a beautiful dinner party or gathering of my friends, where I get to show my gratitude for them and our growing friendship.
May Day is a time to shed the old and embrace the new, to set intentions for growth and positive change. Whether it's taking a walk in nature, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking a moment to reflect on the beauty of the world around us, there are so many ways to celebrate this special day.
So let's raise a glass (or a posy of flowers!) to the beauty of spring and the endless possibilities of new beginnings. Happy May Day, everyone!
